Official Transcripts/Academic Credentials

One set of official transcripts/mark sheets from every college and university from which a bachelor's or higher degree was earned must be submitted. You do not need to submit Arizona State University transcripts. If additional transcripts are required, the Graduate College will notify you.

We prefer transcripts in sealed envelopes, stamped and verified by the issuing institutions.

International students should review additional information available at graduate.asu.edu/admissions/international.html.

Nondegree applicants do not need to send transcripts.

Official Test Scores

Have the official test scores required by the degree program sent to the Graduate Admissions Office by ETS.

English Proficiency

If English is not your native language, you must provide evidence of English proficiency as indicated by acceptable scores on the TOEFL or IELTS as follows:

  • The minimum TOEFL requirement is 550 (PBT) or 213 (CBT) or 83 (iBT).
  • The minimum IELTS is an overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band below a 6.0.
  • Individual academic units may have higher requirements. Please consult your department's website.
  • Applicants who have met one of the following conditions at a regionally accredited college/university in the United States do not need to submit evidence of English proficiency:
    1. earned a bachelor's degree or higher
    2. completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of graduate level study with a GPA of 3.00 or higher
    3. completed at least 90 undergraduate semester credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid when the test date is within two years of the first day of classes of the semester you are enrolling at ASU. Applications will not be processed without valid evidence of English proficiency.

The TOEFL is administered by TOEFL/TSE Services, PO Box 6151, Princeton, NJ, 08541-6151, USA. Information is available on the internet at www.toefl.org or by email at toefl@ets.org.

The IELTS is administered by the University of Cambridge, ESOL Examinations, 1 Hills Road, Cambridge, CB1 2EU, United Kingdom. Information is available on the internet at www.ielts.org. If you are an international student from a country where English is not the native language and you have taken the test and received your score report, have an official score report sent to the Graduate Admissions Office by ETS as soon as possible for each application you submit.
