Express MailingGraduate Admissions does not express mail visa documents. All documents are sent by regular air mail. Please allow at least four weeks for delivery. To permit someone else to receive or pick up your I-20, please see "Authorizing a Friend" below. (If you authorize your I-20 to be mailed to another person, the authorized person must be within the U.S.)
Authorizing a FriendPlease fill out a Letter of Authorization to permit someone other than yourself to receive or pick up your I-20 or DS-2019. (If you authorize your I-20 to be mailed to another person, the authorized person must be within the U.S.) If the authorized person is going to pick up your I-20 or DS-2019 from ASU, they will need to have photo identification. Deadlines SEVIS FeeThe United States federal government requires that all F-1/J-1 visa applicants pay a SEVIS Fee. This fee must be paid a minimum of three days prior to your U.S. Consulate interview, and proof of payment must be shown to the consular official. For more information about the fee and methods of payment, please refer to www.fmjfee.com.
If you are currently attending ASU or on OPT through ASU, please contact the International Student Office (www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/ed/iso) for information on transferring your I-20 to your new program/degree.
Transfer Students from Other U.S. InstitutionsIt is necessary to transfer your SEVIS information from your current institution to ASU to receive a new I-20. You will need to meet with an advisor at your current school and complete a SEVIS Transfer Form to determine an appropriate date to transfer to ASU. Do not fax this form to us until a release date has been set. Arizona State University's school code is PH0214F00127000. The Exchange Visitor Program Number is P-1-01599. OPTIf you are currently on OPT from another institution besides ASU, please refer to "Transfer Students from Other U.S. Institutions" above.
Proof of StatusIf you are currently in the U.S. on a visa other than an F-1 or J-1, please provide proof of your visa. We will accept copies of your visa or the receipt issued to you by the government (generally the I-797C Form). If you have already provided this, please do not resend it to us. This can be faxed to (480) 965-5158.
Change of StatusIf you are currently in the U.S. on a valid visa and plan to switch to an F-1 or J-1, please refer to "VISA DOCUMENTS" above. Please make sure you notify us when submitting these documents that you are currently in the U.S.
Out of StatusIf you are currently in the U.S. and out of status, please contact Graduate Admissions at (480) 965-6113.
In order to request a deferral, you will need to contact the department you applied to. Please bear in mind you can only defer your application once to the previous/next term. Your request may be put on hold until you provide proof of English Proficiency if your previous score is no longer valid.
Final TranscriptsIf you notice that your file is incomplete but we have received your transcripts, do not worry. If you are currently finishing your undergraduate degree, we will require an official copy of your final transcript. We require proof of the degree being awarded (generally with a degree certificate or diploma) from most countries. These can be provided when you come to ASU to start your program.
Arriving at ASUIt is imperative that you report to the International Student Office (www.asu.edu/studentaffairs/ed/iso) immediately upon arrival. Failure to do this can lead to loss of status and deportation.
