U.S. federal law protects the confidentiality of student records. The Graduate College will release information about an applicant only to the academic unit to which the applicant applied. To allow a representative, such as a relative or friend, to transact business for you, the Graduate College must receive a signed letter from you designating (1) your full name as it appears on the application, (2) the program to which you are applying, (3) the full name of one person who will act as your representative, and (4) the reason for designating a representative. You can find a sample Letter of Authorization on our website at graduate.asu.edu/forms. The letter will be kept in your permanent file. The representative will be required to present identification before obtaining information or transacting business for you.
