Student-Related Services and Resources
  • Issuance of I-20/DS-2019 and Important Dates
    The United States government has strict regulations on the issuance of I-20s and Ds-2019 documents to international students who wish to attend an educational institution in the US. The dates are listed at graduate.asu.edu/issuancei20.html.
  • Programs of Study, Petitions, Oral Defenses, Supervisory Committees
    The Graduate Student Academic Services (SAS) unit assists students and academic units with the processing of Programs of Study, Petitions, Oral Defenses and Supervisory Committees, along with other degree policies and requirements.
  • Thesis & Dissertation Format Preparation and Support
    SAS assures quality by reviewing students' theses and dissertations according to the guidelines in the Format Manual and provides format-specific assistance via email (gradformat@asu.edu), biannual presentations, its website (graduate.asu.edu/format), and daily advising hours.

    The Thesis/Dissertation and Graduation Workshop is held every fall and spring semester for ASU graduate students to specifically address the thesis/dissertation format approval process and preparation for graduation.
  • Student Recruitment/Retention
    The Graduate College coordinates and facilitates recruitment and retention efforts in conjunction with academic units, focusing on recruitment for excellence and diversity in all disciplines and programs.
  • Student Appeals
Graduate Academic Program Development (GAPD)
Academic program development includes the processes associated with the development, review, and approval of new academic programs, changes to existing programs, as well as changes to policies and procedures affecting graduate students. graduate.asu.edu/gapd


Academic Program Review (APR) and Accreditation
Dr. Maria T. Allison, University Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate College (GC) also serves as the University Program Review/Accreditation (UPRA) Officer, and is responsible for overseeing the coordination of all Arizona State University (ASU) Academic Program Reviews, Accreditations and Center/Institute Reviews.
  • Academic Program Review (APR)
    The Graduate College coordinates the periodic review of all academic programs at ASU. The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) mandates that every program be reviewed at least every seven years, sometimes also called the septennial review.

  • Accreditation
    The University Accreditation Office (UAO) represents the President and Executive Vice President and Provost of the University with respect to program and specialized accreditation-related coordinating functions and services to assist programs in achieving successful accreditation outcomes.

    The UAO also serves as the liaison to the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to coordinate ASU compliance with HLC requirements and the decennial comprehensive institutional review.

ASU Center/Institute Approval Process and Review
  • ASU Approved Centers and Institutes contains a list of all approved University centers and institutes.
  • Center and Institute Approval Process contains resources and information for the development of new centers and institutes and general deadlines.
  • Center and Institute Review contains information on the review process and report format. The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) requires a review of each University Center or Institute at least every five years to determine the need for continuation.
