Format review is a university requirement to ensure your document is in compliance with ASU standards.
All theses/dissertations and equivalent documents are required to meet a certain standard as a recognizable product of ASU. Your committee, department and the Graduate College expect to see evidence of careful attention to style and format in the document that you present as part of your culminating experience.
Applied Projects do not need format approval.
Format review will also prepare you for future publications. The review process provides an opportunity to use basic editing and manuscript preparation techniques that professional and post-graduate careers may expect.
Carefully monitor your MyASU account for important information, and coordinate with your academic unit personnel. When your chair believes that you have produced a complete, defense-ready document (i.e., it has been proofread for grammar and punctuation and includes the text and all tables, figures, references and appendices), you must submit your document in Microsoft Word or PDF to gradformat@asu.edu for format review. You must include your ten (10) digit ASU ID number in order for your document to be reviewed.
You must be enrolled in at least one (1) credit hour during the semester in which you defend. You must submit a complete, defense-ready draft of your document for format evaluation within ten (10) days of your defense date. If you submit a partial or incomplete document, your document will be returned to you without evaluation.
Be sure to follow all graduation deadlines posted on the Graduate College website.
