Arizona State University's Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Programs (iGEPs) are designed to facilitate interdisciplinary research and training opportunities for doctoral students that transcend traditional disciplinary perspectives and that promote collaborations across colleges, units and affiliated organizations. Such interdisciplinary collaborative programs create the novel learning and discovery opportunities that are needed to train our future workforce leaders. iGEPs also provide the framework required to develop the important team work and collaborative skills that are fundamental for pursuing interdisciplinary research and education.
Initiated by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 1997 and now comprising approximately 100 award sites, the IGERT program is designed to educate American Ph.D. scientists, engineers, and educators with the interdisciplinary backgrounds, deep knowledge in chosen disciplines, and technical, professional, and personal skills to become the leaders and creative agents for change.
