apply for graduation

In order to graduate, you must apply by completing your Application for Graduation. To ensure that your name appears in the commencement program and, to avoid paying a late fee, you must apply by the stated deadline.

If you do not complete all requirements in the semester you intend to graduate, you will need to reapply for graduation the next semester; the application will not be automatically forwarded.

The university graduate commencement ceremony is held each May and December in Wells Fargo Arena. This is the ceremony where Ph.D. candidates are hooded by their committee chair (hooder) during the rite of investiture. It is at the commencement ceremony that doctoral and master’s students have the opportunity to have their name read aloud and then walk across the stage to shake the hands of President Crow or Provost Capaldi. Both doctoral and master’s students who intend to participate in commencement must obtain academic regalia which can be purchase at ASU’s Bookstore.

ph.d. candidates

If you intend to participate in commencement you must have completed all culminating work by the semester deadlines. Please note: it is your responsibility to notify your chair/hooder if you intend to participate in the commencement ceremony. Likewise, if you plan to participate you must RSVP online with Marching Orders via MyASU. Prior to commencement you and your hooder will receive an email with additional information you will need on the day of commencement.

If you are a doctoral candidate and plan on attending the university commencement ceremony, please RSVP online with Marching Orders via MyASU no later than Friday, April 13, 2012.

Once your RSVP has been submitted you will receive an auto response email with further information and instructions, please look for this in your ASU email account to confirm your RSVP was properly submitted.

professional doctoral candidates (e.g. AUD, EDD, DBH, DNP, JD)

Professional Doctoral candidates will also be individually recognized at the university graduate commencement ceremony. Participants will march in during the processional and will also cross the stage shaking the hands of President Crow or Provost Capaldi.

If you are a professional doctoral candidate and plan on attending the university commencement ceremony, please RSVP online with Marching Orders via MyASU no later than Friday, April 13, 2012.

master’s students

Master’s students are also individually recognized at the university graduate commencement ceremony. Participants will march in during the processional and will also cross the stage, shaking hands with President Crow or Provost Capaldi.

Summer 2012 graduates: All graduate students may petition the Graduate College to participate in graduation ceremonies in May so long as they have successfully completed the majority of their degree requirements. Upon approval of the petition by the academic unit and the Graduate College the student may participate. Candidates must have applied for graduation and pay the graduation fees in order to have the RSVP link appear on your MyASU page. Your name will appear with the listing of students who completed degree requirements in August 2012 in the December 2012 Commencement program.
