PURPOSE
The Graduate College Social and Academic Mentoring (SAM) Program supports academic success, diversity and professional development through peer mentorship. The SAM Program supports the development of peer-to-peer mentorship. ASU Academic Units, ASU Student Services and ASU Student Organizations that promote academic excellence and the Graduate College mission.

ELIGIBILITY
SAM Applicant must be:
- A graduate student regularly admitted into a master/doctoral program
- Able to meet the qualifications of the SAM position as posted at Position Announcement
- Hired by the Graduate College
- Approved to mentor by current Graduate Advisor/Director as noted on the SAM Application

- Available to mentor 1-5 hours per week
- Able to submit a regular SAM Activity Log and Bi-Weekly Pay Schedule
to the Graduate College.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Prospective SAM participants must complete and submit the SAM Application Form to the Graduate College for review.
- The Graduate College will notify the SAM applicant within 5 business days if a current SAM assignment is available.
- The Graduate College will keep SAM applications on file for one academic year and notify applicants when a SAM assignment have been identified by the Graduate College.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
- SAM Mentors will contribute 1-5 hours weekly and be paid an hourly rate of $12.50-$17.50 DOE.
- SAM Mentors must submit a completed SAM Activity Log, for pay periods worked, to the Graduate College. The completed Activity Log may be submitted by e-mail to GradMentor@asu.edu or to the Graduate College Student Support Program Office in the Interdisciplinary Building-B, room 288.
- SAM mentors are also required to record their SAM hours/time through http://my.asu.edu in order to receive payment. The total hours earned on the Activity Log must match the time submitted on MyASU and should not exceed 5 hours a week without prior, written approval of the Director of Graduate Support Initiatives.
- SAM Mentorship Partners must notify the Graduate College of any interruptions in the SAM mentorship and/or enrollment.
- SAM Mentorship may be terminated at the Graduate College discretion.
