Teaching Assistant Development (TAD) Program
Fall 2008
Who is required to participate in the TAD program?
Newly-hired TAs and any TAs who have not previously completed the TAD program or attended TA Orientation are required to complete the TAD program. RAs are not required by the Graduate College to participate in TAD. RA participation in TAD is solely up to the discretion of the hiring department.
There are three (3) components of TAD.
1.) Pre-Orientation Modules - These will cover various topics that are important for all TAs, such as FERPA, Sexual Harassment, Diversity, etc. These will be completed through a Blackboard shell that TAs will be enrolled in toward the end of the summer based on a TA award being entered by the TAs hiring department. (More information on this process will be available at a later time)
2.) Face-to-Face Orientation - This is a ½ day workshop that will cover various topics to help TAs learn about what might be expected of them in their new role. Attendance is required at one of the two sessions:
a. Monday, August 18, 2008 - 1:00pm-5:00pm - Neeb Hall
b. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 - 8:30am-12:30pm - Neeb Hall
3.) Developmental Experiences - These are professional development workshops or online modules within the TAD Blackboard that can be chosen based on the TA assignment and the professional development needs identified by the TA.
Please email David Nutt at TAD-Q@asu.edu if you have any questions or would like additional information about the TAD program.
