TA/RA Tuition Reduction
Teaching
and Research Assistant Tuition Reduction
- Out-of-state tuition. Teaching and Research Assistants/Associates with appointments of 25 percent time (i.e., 10 hours per week) or more are treated as residents for tuition purposes.
- Resident tuition. Effective Fall 2004:
TAs/RAs with 50 percent time (i.e., 20 hours per week) appointments receive a full tuition remission, and
TAs/RAs with 25-49 percent time (i.e., 10-19 hours per week) appointments receive a 50% reduction in resident tuition.
- Tuition remission is a non-taxable fringe benefit to graduate teaching and research assistants/associates and cannot be converted into a cash award. The tuition remission will be credited to the student's account or reimbursed at a rate consistent with the number of units in which the student is enrolled.
- For further information on TA benefits, see Chapter 2 of the TA/RA Handbook.
