Meet your advisory committee

I am happy to announce two important accomplishments that took place over the summer. These two milestones give postdocs at ASU more voice and leadership in what happens as members of the ASU community.

First, we have officially recognized the formation of the Postdoc and Early Career Scientists Network. We are still working on logistics, but we are putting together the Network as an official campus organization, with a bank account and everything! The Network will be supported by the Postdoctoral Affairs Office, but will not be run by the Postdoc Office. It will have a degree of autonomy and it will have the opportunity to help guide the direction of the Postdoc Office and its activities. The “Postdoc Network” has already taken over the planning of coffee hours and social mixers. The Postdoc Office will continue to cover the cost of loaded nachos and fried zucchini until we can get accounts set up and authorizations established.

Second, we are pleased to announce the formation of the leadership committee for the Postdoc Network. The committee is made up of these postdocs:

»      Hope Lancaster — Events

»      Christina Forbes — Social Activities

»      Vanessa Da Silva Brum Bastos — Communications

»      Eric Chen — Professional Development

»      Chitrak Gupta — Professional Development

Each of these committee members is looking for postdocs to help plan and assist in the operations of their sub-committee. If you would like to help with the planning and execution of different aspects of the postdoc programming, please email Hope and volunteer. This service is a great opportunity to gain leadership experience and add to your CV.

The committee has been hard at work over the summer and has been instrumental in the planning effort for the fall activities. You can stay up-to-date with all of the Postdoc Network activities and events by visiting graduate.asu.edu/postdocs.
