Petitions for Veterans

Petition to Maintain Continuous Enrollment: Military

Request must be submitted to your academic unit and the Graduate College along with a copy of official deployment orders. The Graduate College will grant a leave of absence for the duration of deployment.  The duration of deployment will not impact the time limits allowed for degrees.

Petition to Request for Extension to Graduate: Military

Request must be submitted to your academic unit and the Graduate College. The petition must include the following information in order for us to review:

  • The planned semester of graduation

  • Explain why you didn't complete your degree in the time limit allowed

  • Explain why your circumstances warrant an exception to the policy

  • A detailed timeline of the steps you will take to ensure you complete your remaining degree requirements by your requested extension term.

  • If you are required to complete a thesis or dissertation, your timeline must include details of when you will complete each chapter of your document, provide a final draft to your committee, and hold your defense.

Petition to Attend Defense by Video: Military

Graduate College recognizes that in extreme circumstances, a student or chair may not be able to attend a Thesis Dissertation defense in-person. In these extraordinary circumstances, a student or chair, with the support of their academic unit's leadership, may petition to attend the defense via video. This form must be submitted to the Graduate College along with supporting military documents to be considered for this extremely rare exception. This petition must be supported by the head of the academic unit, as well as the entire committee. *Please note: Graduate College must be in attendance of any defense that a student will be defending remotely. Please coordinate with the Graduate College so that a representative is available.
