The Gates Millennium Scholars Program is a $1 billion initiative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to promote academic excellence and increase the number of underrepresented students enrolling in and completing undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The Gates Millennium Scholars Program is a 20 year commitment enrolling 1,000 students annually nationwide.
Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) are chosen for their academic excellence and their promise to assume roles as leaders in their professions and in the community. It is an honor that many scholars have chosen to pursue their educational goals at Arizona State University.
How successful is the Gates Millennium Scholarship program?
Since the program inception in 1999:
98 Gates Millennium Scholars, at ASU, have received undergraduate degrees and 15 of the 98 continued on to graduate degree programs at ASU. ASU currently has 53 Gates Millennium Scholars who range from good standing to Dean’s List and scholars of ASU’s Barrett,The Honors College. Of the 57 scholars, 9 are currently enrolled in ASU graduate degree programs (master’s and doctoral) and the numbers increase yearly.
