Herman E. DeMund Memorial Fellowship

Deadline

Fall 2017—Spring 2018: Tuesday September 5, 2017

Purpose

To support Ed.D. doctoral students in Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.

Award

  1. Fellowship provides a $2,000 ($1,000 per semester) award.
  2. Graduate College covers tuition for fall and spring semesters if not already covered by other university sources (e.g., TA/RA tuition remission).

Eligibility

The award will be made based on the following criteria:

  • Academic accomplishments including, but not limited to GPA, test, publications, and presentations
  • Contribution to the discipline including clarity and importance of the applicant's research questions or creative endeavors, as demonstrated in the letter of nomination from dissertation committee chair and vita
  • Progress towards the degree, with typical time-to-degree in the academic program clarified in the letter of nomination from dissertation committee chair
  • Contributions to the academic community (e.g., teaching awards or other recommendations, substantial service activities)

Nomination Material and Submission Procedures

Submit the complete nomination packet electronically to Heather Fauland, heather.fauland@asu.edu. Electronic nomination packet includes:

  1. Nomination form
  2. Detailed letter of nomination from the committee chair
  3. Copy of ASU unofficial transcript
  4. Student's resume/vita

Terms of the Award

  1. Nominee must be regularly admitted to a doctoral degree program and in good academic standing with the department and Graduate College.
  2. International students must have been enrolled at ASU for one academic year immediately prior to the award period to be eligible.
  3. The recipient is required to enroll in a minimum of six (6) graduate-level credit hours, or more if required, during fall and spring semesters.

Important Information

Taxes
Each fellow is personally responsible for individual taxes related to this award. Additional information regarding tax issues related to awards can be found at tax considerations. Specific questions should be directed to a tax advisor or contact the ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.

Overawards
An "overaward" is when a student’s need based awards exceed his/her financial need, or the total of the awards exceeds the cost of attendance. If a student has been overawarded, federal regulations require ASU to adjust his/her awards which may result in a reduction in awards or a bill. Need based aid include grants, scholarships, Federal Work-Study, Federal Perkins Loans,  and outside resources (i.e. faculty/staff tuition benefits, scholarships, stipends, etc.). Non-need based aid includes unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Graduate PLUS Loans and Private Education Loans. Questions regarding overawards should be directed to the ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
