An ASU researcher developing near-real-time earth satellite photography. Another researcher focusing on therapeutic applications of virus-derived anti-inflammatory proteins and peptides. A third focusing on isotopic landscapes, and two more focusing bio-engineered body parts.
What do they have in common?
They are Arizona-based postdocs looking for collaborators.
The purpose of the Postdoctoral Research Blitz Talks is to facilitate new research collaborations and partnerships. One can view this program as a matching system for a research project: perhaps your project needs an undergraduate researcher, or a statistician, or a research professional with a particular area of expertise.
The format for the Research Blitz Talks is rapid, in order to allow more time for networking afterwards. As a presenter, you only have 5 minutes to present a summary of the research project and project need. The 5-minute time limit is strictly enforced. There are no questions taken from the audience, since attendees should discuss the project directly with presenters in a networking session immediately following.
There are several requirements that are part of your application to present at the Research Blitz:
Remember that the Research Blitz as a professional, research-oriented networking. Arrive early, dress professionally, provide contact information on your final slide, and bring plenty of business cards (if you have them; if not, create some through in official ASU-branded business cards: https://print.asu.edu/asu-branded-collateral).
As part of your application submission, your presentation slides will be reviewed by the Visibility Committee. Scoring will be based on clarity of your need and quality of your slides, based on principles that were discussed in the Lunch & Learn “How to Pitch.” If your presentation is among the 5 highest-scoring talks, you will present in front of a broader audience at the next Research Blitz.
If your presentation was not accepted for the Blitz you applied for, you are invited to submit another application in the next cycle. Prior to submitting another application, it is strongly recommended that you attend another “How to Pitch” Lunch & Learn and consider the feedback provided to you from the Visibility Committee.
