McNair Scholars Program
Ronald E. McNair post-baccalaureate achievement program
McNair is one of seven programs, under the federal TRIO Programs. TRIO is funded by the Department of Education and is targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs. The McNair program, named for the late astronaut, Ronald Ervin McNair, who died in the 1986 space shuttle Challenger explosion, provides students with research opportunities, faculty mentors and opportunities to publish and or present research findings, and preparation for graduate school.
Currently ASU does not have a TRIO funded McNair Program; however, ASU recognizes McNair Scholars as students coming from some of the most competitive undergraduate programs in the country to graduate school at Arizona State University.

ASU waives the university application fee for McNair scholars
The domestic graduate university application fee is waived for McNair scholars applying to an ASU graduate program.
Before submitting the ASU graduate admissions application, a McNair University representative or scholar should email a copy of the student’s McNair award letter or McNair verification form to gograd@asu.edu. In the email, include the following information:
- Student Name
- Student Birthdate
- Student Email (used when applying to ASU)
- Exact program student is applying to
- Term student is applying to
