Purpose

One nomination of a graduate student from the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences will be accepted for consideration of the Earl A. and Lenore H. Tripke Fellowship award. This fellowship will be awarded to one student for the spring semester.

Award

One nomination of a graduate student from the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences will be accepted for the Earl A. and Lenore H. Tripke Fellowship award

  1. $4,000 fellowship for spring semester support
  2. Graduate College covers tuition for spring semester if not already covered through other university sources (e.g., TA/RA tuition remission)

Eligibility

The nominee must:

  1. Be a regularly admitted graduate student
  2. Be in good academic standing
  3. Have academic accomplishments including, but not limited to, GPA, test scores, publications, exhibitions, etc.
  4. Submit contribution to the discipline, including clarity/importance of the reseach, questions or creative endeavors
  5. Outline progress towards the degree, with typical time-to-degree in the program clarified in the nomination letter
  6. Contributions to the academic community (e.g., teaching awards or other recommendations, or service activities)

NOTE:  Failure to use this award during the specified period may result in its loss.

Procedures and Terms

Nomination Materal and Submission Procedures

The school’s graduate office submits a complete nomination packet electronically (including questions) to Gradinfo@asu.edu. Electronic nomination packet includes:

  1. nomination form (will be available Spring 2019)
  2. academic accomplishments including, but not limited to GPA, test scores, publications, exhibitions, presentations
  3. contribution to the discipline including clarity and importance of the applicant's research questions or creative endeavors
  4. progress towards the degree, with typical time-to-degree in the academic program clarified in the nomination letter
  5. contributions to the academic community (e.g., teaching awards or other recommendations, substantial service activities)
  6. a copy of the student’s unofficial ASU transcript
  7. student’s resume/vita

When submitting the documents, please type the name of the award and student’s last name in the subject line heading. For example: Tripke Fellowship – Smith

Once all documents have been submitted, please allow 72 hours for document review and confirmation email from the graduate education office. If, after 72 hours, you have not received an email confirmation of nomination, please telephone 480-965-3530.

The number of applications received will determine the turn-around time for awardee announcement.  Please allow six weeks processing time. Once awardees have been selected, they will be notified by email.

Taxes

Each fellow is personally responsible for individual taxes related to this award. Additional information regarding tax issues related to awards can be found at tax considerations. Specific questions should be directed to a tax advisor or contact the ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.

Overawards

An "overaward" is when a student’s need-based awards exceed his/her financial need, or the total of the awards exceeds the cost of attendance. If a student has been overawarded, federal regulations require ASU to adjust his/her awards which may result in a reduction in awards or a bill. Need-based aid include grants, scholarships, Federal Work-Study, Federal Perkins Loans,  and outside resources (i.e. faculty/staff tuition benefits, scholarships, stipends, etc.). Non-need based aid includes unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Graduate PLUS Loans and Private Education Loans. Questions regarding overawards should be directed to the ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
