Funding opportunities

Travel Awards

Graduate students can apply directly to receive funding for in-person or remote attendance at professional development conferences and events. These awards provide up to $500 toward airfare, registration fees and/or ASU international registration fees. Funds for other expenses are not permissible.

The first cycle of the fiscal year (Q1) is now open and accepting applications for use from July 1-December 31, 2026. This Travel Award Application is due by June 15, 2026. 

 

About this Award

Students may receive up to $500 per fiscal year for airfare, registration fees and/or ASU international fees to attend conferences or events that align with their program, area of study, or research.

Eligibility

  • Applications will be accepted for airfare, registration costs for conferences, workshops and training, ASU international registration fee and daily charges only.
  • Applicants must be graduate students enrolled in a campus-immersion graduate degree program at the time of proposed event/travel and be in good academic standing with their academic program and the Graduate College.
  • Requests must be directly related to the applicant's current graduate program of study.
  • Students must self-apply and include a letter of recommendation on ASU letterhead and signed by an ASU faculty member.
  • The following are non-permissible expenses: ASU account charges or fees (including workshops, courses utilizing ASU student accounts or Study Abroad courses), requests for professional certifications, or non-airfare travel-related expenses such as ground transportation, per diem, hotel, and miscellaneous expenses.
  • Awards are not available prior to the start of classes in the first semester of a student's degree program or after a student's graduation date
     

Submission Procedures

  • Application must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. AZ time of the application period deadline.
  • Application is for events occurring within a specific time period as outlined here and the application is for events occurring within a specific time period, as outlined on the application.
  • Students must submit application and upload (Dropbox link provided in application) a letter of recommendation signed by an ASU faculty member by the deadline stated above. the Letter of recommendation should include the faculty member's full name and title, and should be submitted on ASU letterhead.
  • Deadlines and completed information are essential to processing requests in a fair and timely manner. In order to ensure the integrity of the application process, no exceptions will be made to program guidelines or deadlines.
     

Award Notifications

Applicants will be notified of the status of their application approximately three weeks after the close of the posted deadline. Inquiries can be directed to [email protected].

After receiving award, please review the travel guide. It is important that you follow all instructions in the award letter in order to utilize funding.
