National Postdoc Appreciation Week is coming, September 17-21
For the second year, ASU’s Postdoctoral Affairs Office will be participating in National Postdoc Appreciation Week, in partnership with the National Postdoc Association, on September 17-21, 2018.
The office plans activities for each day of the week, to show appreciation and recognition of the individuals who show so much commitment to the academy and to learning more about their area, beyond what they learned from their PhD program.
“We like to say that ‘Innovation runs on postdoc power,’” said Tamara Underiner, associate dean for academic affairs at the Graduate College. “Postdocs are such an important part of the research enterprise at ASU. This is a great way to recognize their hard work and their importance to the institution," added Underiner, who oversees the Postdoctoral Affairs Office.
The highlight of the week’s events is the Research Blitz, to be held on Tuesday, September 18. The Research Blitz will feature seven postdocs who are seeking collaborators on their projects. Faculty, postdocs, research scientists and PhD students are encouraged to attend.
The week will also include Lunch ‘n’ Learns, social mixers, and an appreciation breakfast. Topics of the Lunch ‘n’ Learns will include: An overview of the research enterprise at ASU, How to get a faculty appointment, and Research in government service.
National Postdoc Appreciation Week also marks the one-year anniversary of the ASU Postdoctoral Affairs Office and its activities. The office focuses on professional development and community building for postdocs at all ASU campuses and sponsors activities year-round.
