Virtual Graduate Workshop Series returns for Spring 2021 with more academic resources for graduate students

The Graduate Academic Support Center is offering another Graduate Workshop Series for the Spring 2021 academic year. 

The Graduate Workshop Series is a collection of virtual lectures focused on a variety of topics such as writing techniques, research practices, data analysis, and statistical concepts. The workshops are intended to provide graduate students with the high level skills they need to pursue advanced degrees and future employment.  

The workshop series will be offered throughout the Spring semester and will be held via Zoom. Learn more about the upcoming workshops and register below! 

Upcoming Workshops  

Statistical Concepts Review (Part 1): Jan. 20 from Noon- 1 p.m.

Students will review introductory statistics concepts such as mean, hypothesis testing (z-test and t-test), and confidence intervals (z-test and t-test). Register at http://bit.ly/S21GradStatReviewP1.

Managing the Thesis and Dissertation Writing Process: Jan. 26 from Noon- 1 p.m.

Introduction to R (Part 1): Jan. 28 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Statistical Concepts Review (Part 2): Feb. 2 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Graduate statistics tutors will present part 2 of a statistical concepts review with more information provided to support statistics coursework or research projects. Register at http://bit.ly/S21GradStatReviewP2.

APA Style, 7th Edition: Feb. 3 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

This workshop will review tips for formatting, in-text citations, and references according to the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association's (APA) citation style. Register at http://bit.ly/S21GradAPAStyle.

Introduction to SPSS (Part 1): Feb. 10 from Noon- 1 p.m.

Introduction to Excel for Data Analysis: Feb. 16 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Writing a Literature Review: Preparation & Research (Part 1): March 3 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

This presentation will discuss the purpose of a literature review and provide strategies for preparing to write a draft, including tips for researching, using the ASU Library tools, and organizing a literature review. Register at http://bit.ly/S21GradLitReviewP1.

Writing a Literature Review:  Drafting & Revising (Part 2): March 16 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

This presentation will discuss the process of evaluating multiple drafts of a literature review by examining a sample literature review and considering revision and editing strategies. Register at http://bit.ly/S21GradLitReviewP2.

Introduction to Graduate Funding: March 23 from Noon- 1 p.m.

Introduction to Qualitative Data Analysis: March 30 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Developing a CV: April 6 from Noon- 1 p.m.

Dr. Duane Roen, Vice Provost of the Polytechnic campus and Dean of the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, will discuss the differences between a curriculum vitae (CV) and a resume as well as strategies for developing and revising a CV. Register at http://bit.ly/GradDevCV.

Preparing to Submit for Possible Publication: April 8 from 3 p.m.- 4 p.m.

Students will learn strategies for drafting and tackling the process of transforming a course seminar paper into an article manuscript. Register at http://bit.ly/S21GradPossPub.
