 Associate Dean, Graduate Academic Affairs (posting #16887)

Arizona State University seeks a dynamic, innovative, and visionary leader for the position of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the Graduate College.  The Associate Dean is an integral part of the Dean’s Leadership Team, reports directly to the Dean, and maintains positive relationships throughout the university and nationally to advance the quality and prominence of graduate and professional education at ASU.

The associate dean’s responsibilities encompass many aspects of graduate affairs. These include but are not limited to areas that engage academic and professional development of graduate students.  Specific responsibilities include oversight of the University Graduate Council, Program Quality, Graduate Faculty reviews and approvals, Academic Integrity and the dismissal process. The associate dean will play a major role in planning, improving and evaluating graduate education at ASU. This position will work closely with the Dean to vigorously promote the highest standards of quality for graduate and professional education through collaboration with directors of graduate studies, chairs, center directors, and other academic administrators in order to enhance and expand the portfolio of academic programs offered, including strategic and innovative interdisciplinary programs.  The person in this role will also assist in administering academic and administrative policies that affect graduate students in ways that foster a culturally and intellectually diverse environment characterized by high academic standards and that increase the diversity of our graduate student body.  In line with Graduate College’s commitment to continuing to build a diverse cohort of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, the associate dean will collaborate in the implementation of the professional development series and be a part of the team to implement new programs such as Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) and ASU’s LIFT initiatives, ASU’s commitment to Black students, faculty, and staff.  As an important member of the team, the associate dean will strongly advocate for measures and initiatives that advance the prominence of graduate and professional education, building affinity, enrollment management, increasing funding, and improving operational efficiency.

The anticipated start date of this position is January 6, 2022.

Required:The successful candidate must hold the rank of associate or full professor with tenure in one of the academic units at Arizona State University.  The candidate must demonstrate service to graduate students through contributions such as the University Graduate Council (UGC), departmental/school graduate committees, developing and implementing new graduate programs, and supervising graduate students. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Desired: The successful candidate should demonstrate experience in developing, enhancing, and sustaining a diverse and inclusive student body through the development or contributions to university initiatives, curriculum design, and committee participation. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of the ability to work in a collegial manner and maintain effective collaborations with a variety of persons, internal and external to the Graduate College, as well as strengths in planning, developing, and implementing complex strategic goals and/or programs.
