Advancing graduate education through global engagement
A week after celebrating Independence Day is a perfect time to consider and celebrate the democratic values on which our nation was built — values like liberty, freedom and justice. The democratic success of the United States is also built upon the idea of inclusion — that the diversity of our nation is a gift open to all who work hard and contribute to its success.
Like our nation, ASU has built its success by measuring itself “not by whom it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed.” At the Graduate College, we believe strongly that inclusion is the foundation of success for all of our students.
Through a variety of programs and initiatives, the ASU Graduate College extends this mission to foster inclusion for our diverse community of graduate students — enriching their academic experience and their impact on the world. Building international partnerships is an important way we support the value of inclusion and diversity at ASU. We feature in this edition of the Graduate Insider our ongoing efforts to advance this global engagement agenda. For instance, as part of our outreach in Latin America, we feature the work we have been doing with prominent Mexican universities. Some of the work that Associate Dean Enrique Vivoni is leading includes a new partnership with Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua. We anticipate this initiative will include new programs, student visits and exchanges, and research collaborations on cross-border topics.
We continue to expand opportunities for students from around the world to study at ASU, including funding mechanisms from Fulbright-Garcia Robles and ASU-CONACYT fellowship programs.
By increasing our international partnerships and student population and the supports we provide them, the Graduate College and graduate students from around the world are making a valuable contribution to core ASU and American values.
