Through its fellowship programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. One way the Ford Foundation accomplishes this goal is by awarding predoctoral, dissertation and postdoctoral fellowships to future and current faculty via a national competition.

Ford Dissertation and Postdoctoral Fellowship Deadline: Dec. 6, 2018

Eligibility Requirements:

• Citizenship and/or residency:  U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents, DACA grantees, political asylees, and refugees
• Academic characteristics: Evidence of superior academic achievement
• Personal goals: committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level and committed to using diversity as a resource for enriching education.

Positive factors for selection: Likelihood of using diversity as an education resource in teaching and scholarship; Membership in one or more of the following underrepresented groups:

• Black/African Americans
• Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos
• Native American Indians
• Native Pacific Islanders (Hawaiian/Polynesian/Micronesian)
• Puerto Ricans
• Alaska Natives (Aleut, Eskimo or other Indigenous People of Alaska)

Award amount/s: Predoctoral fellowship: $24,000 per year for three years; Dissertation fellowship: $25,000 for one year; Postdoctoral fellowship: $45,000 for one year.
